The cooking cabinet is the embodiment of a simple look hiding complex functions:
- 1 induction burner still accessible when the bed is down
- Seating for 1 person, for a total of 3+1 or 5+1 seats at the dining table
- Openings, and side doors on drawers, to store long objects from the garage
- 12v & 110v drawers to charge devices
Update 110v / USB power has been added since to the top drawer, via two 3D printed pivoting cable guide arms. Details in this post: https://raphtronic.blogspot.com/2025/02/diy-swiveling-cable-guide-for-dawer-3d.html
Openings were then cut in the sides to reduce weight, and to accomodate long objects from the garage. Here is a peek at the trap doors in the garage and at the
hinged side door in one of the drawers:
It appears that we gained 24" for skis, potato cannons and fishing poles. Sweet !
This cabinet can also be used as a pull-out seat to sit +1 person at the front of the table. After doubling up the drawer slides where needed, the cabinet was ready for the elephant test. Will the drawer stack valiantly hold, or just catastrophically collapse ?
The suspense is thick. Am on pins and needles...
With my builder's pride miraculously intact, it was time to check if it is even possible to cook breakfast in the morning when the bed is down ?
Noice, the right half of the countertop can still open, providing access to both the cooktop's control buttons and the right burner. Phew... starvation averted ! 😂
