Bikes & Bench Modules

The modular zone that was left open in the dining area provides configuration flexibility depending on the use or season.

The 'Summer' configuration consists in a mountain bike module, and sits 3+1 people:

From the back, showing the bike tray with 2 mountain bikes loaded:

The 'Winter' configuration replaces the bikes module with a seating bench, and can sit 5+1 people. In that mode, the table will be of a Lagun type, whose mounting foot can be seen in the center of the pic:

First to be built was the bikes module, whose sliding table is shown here. Note the large openings on top, to allow rumaging through the garage space and work on the bikes from inside the van, without having to venture outside in miserable weather 😋

Flat mounting slides require an appropriate and very sturdy slide model. Especially as the table will see a high load from food pots and people leaning on the table. Hence the use of the C7957-20 Accuride 20” Heavy-Duty 3/4" Flat-mount drawer slides ($122). If need be, a 3rd slide can even be added later.

Finally, the 'Winter' module was built. It consists in a seating bench on top of a storage box:

Swapping modules is simple and toolless. Everything is held with large knob bolts:

Now, inquiring minds likely want to know what on earth the '3+1' and '5+1' seating arrangements mentioned earlier were about ? 🤔 Patience, young padawans, will reward you with the answer in the next 'Cooking cabinet' post. Boop !
