Was
scrambling to finish the build last night to go on a first road test
tomorrow, after getting new license plates today... Well, our local DMV
does not do walk-ins anymore. Appointment in a week. So here goes my 'Trip in August at all costs' goal. Thanks Covid😡
Well, silver lining, now I have time to update this post 😄
Still missing veneer, plumbing, lights, door panels, cushion filler and upper cabinets, but it finally gives an idea of what things will look like when everything comes together:
And although it is just a standard long length Ford Transit, not extended, the inside feels kind of space-y. Even though I'm a 6'4" giraffe.
It
feels much more open than vans I visited that have a fixed bed and/or
full height & depth cabinets along the aisle. And yet there is
plenty of storage, and full amenities.
The 3 spaces
it is organized into really stand out distinctly: front seating / prep
area, utilitarian mid section, dining room at the back. Moving between
the front and the back almost feels like changing rooms in a house.
Spending
1 year on the CAD model, months building infrastructure inside the
walls instead of on their surface, and fabricating a mobile bed and a
sliding toilet / shower cabinet, paid off big time.
