Getting a Colorado title and plates took a few weeks. No fault of the DMV. It's just my 3 thumbs when dealing with administrative stuff...
The converted van now had to be registered as a Motorhome as it sports "4 or more of the following permanently installed and independent life support systems":
- Cooking
- Refrigeration or icebox
- Self-contained toilet
- Heating and/or Air conditioning
- Potable water supply, including a faucet and sink
- 110-125V electrical power supply and/or LP gas supply
That required:
- a VIN re-certification (got it at an emissions test center, after a quick look at the VIN & inside the van)
- a Certified Weight Check (got it from a landscaping supply company)
- filling in a Statement Of Facts form (just listing the main conversion mods, and total cost estimate)
Quite straightforward, actually.
I was all giddy with anticipation as the DMV lady grabbed a pair of plates. Then she asked for $3300 to hand them over with the new title...
2 years old van model, personal conversion... how on earth does that
add up to a robbery ? Well, clueless duh me, the vehicle's MSRP + the
conversion costs resulted in a new $81.000 MSRP, thank you very much 😲
Hopefully, a tiny section of the new bridge over I25 will now be named after me...
Anyhoo, 21 months later this van can now officially barrel down highways and forest roads 🥂
There's still about 6 more months of work to finish it all (solar, paint, electricity...). But for now, time to skedaddle...
Adventures, here we come !!!
