An air extracting fan in the garage area helps with drying up gear (skis, boots, bikes...) and control odors. It can also be used as a quiet breathing air renewal ventilator at night if on speed control.
To not lose storage or floor space,
its pipe had to be mounted somewhere in the wall cavities, and exit
under the chassis like was done for the shower fan. Fortunately, the
rear pillar presents a large ~3x5" opening, and its cavity connects to a
cross beam under the chassis that presents its own ~3x5" opening to the
outside. Sweet !
Now the question was how to install a pipe in the pillar & beam to ensure no air leaks through the myriad of holes, no condensation on the metal, and gravity assisted evacuation of any condensate in the pipe ?
Luck struck again: a 3x4" flex downspout extension (Amerimax Flex-A-Spout from Home Depot) could be pulled through, taking precautions not to cut the vinyl on the sharp metal edges:
And a cable was pulled, to power the fan. Voila, an unobstructive fan setup. It will be paired later with a 10x10mm fan once the wall covering panels are installed.
